Confirmation

Confirmation in the Church of England is a ceremony in which those who have been baptised at some earlier point in their lives now make for themselves the promises which were made on their behalf.

The Bishop presides over the service and each of the people being confirmed will kneel before him and he will lay his hand on their head and pray for the Holy Spirit to be with them to enable them to live out their Christian life.

Confirmation also marks the traditional beginning point from which a person may receive communion.
