Weddings at St Mary’s

If you are interested in getting married at St Mary’s, firstly, congratulations! We have a beautiful and historic venue for your special day.

These pages will answer some of the questions you might have but don’t hesitate to contact our Rector, Jeff Cuttell, for anything that needs clarifying: jeffrey.cuttell@btinternet.com, 01477 500536.
Also, please note that we do not hold weddings on Sundays or on bank holiday weekends.

Most people, unsurprisingly, live outside of the Parish of Astbury.

It used to be tricky getting married outside the parish in which you live. Thankfully, however, the Church of England has relaxed its rules on this. If you don’t live in the parish of Astbury, you can still get married here if either of you can show just one of the following seven connections with the parish.

Have either of you:

· been baptised in the parish or

· been confirmed in the parish or

· lived at any time in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or

· at any time regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months?

That one of your parents, at any time after you were born:

· has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or

· has regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months?

That one of your parents or grandparents:

· was married in the parish?

Even if you cannot demonstrate any of the above connections, we want to help you explore whether it may still be possible for you to marry in the church of your choice.
Talk to the Rector well in advance to discuss the options open to you.
