Our Services

Our Sunday Services:

Astbury St Mary’s has been a place of Christian worship for over 1000 years. We hope that you will feel welcome and that you are able to meet with God through our services.
Unfortunately all our services are currently suspended due to the Corona virus but we our Rector is offering a Sunday morning service on You Tube. The link to these services is emailed out, usually on the Saturday before. However if you miss the service or don’t receive an email, the services can be watched at any time by going to You Tube and searching for astbury smallwood and somerford tv. This is a very good way of meeting our new Rector and we hope as many as possible will make use of this new way of coming together on a Sunday.Furthermore, if you know of anyone, a relative or a neighbour, an acquaintance or perhaps someone in a care home who would be interested and would like to take part, then please let them know about the services, talking them through the process if necessary or ask them if they would like to have their name added to our circular list so that they can be included in the future.
Also the church is now open for private prayer from 12.00 noon until 4.00 pm every Sunday and Thursday, and you may also be interested to know that a quiet and reflective Holy Communion Service is now available, being held in church on Sundays and Wednesdays at 12.15 pm. We would ask everyone to remember please that social distancing is in place and face coverings are now required.

Our normal schedule of services would be:-

8.00 am

Morning Prayer. Book of Common Prayer.

11.00 am

Morning Prayer.

On the second Sunday of each month we have a Family Service and this is combined with the school children during term time. The children stay in church for the first part of the service, before going into the vestry for Junior Church. Tiddler Church for the under-twos is in the Lady Chapel, where their carers can still hear and feel part of the service. The first Sunday of each month is all-age worship when the children stay in for the whole service. There are also ‘Sunday Sacks’ available at the back of church which contain toys, puzzles and games for young children to play with in the pews. After the service you are warmly invited to stay for refreshments, which normally include home-made cakes and real coffee.

6.30 pm

Evensong, with Sung Eucharist on the second Sunday of each month. This is a traditional sung evening service with our robed choir leading the worship.

Again we have to warn you that any or all of these services are subject to change during the interregnum but we do hope that we will be able to maintain this schedule.

Toilet facilities may be found outside the main doors of the church, down the steps and round to the left.

Hearing Aids: We have a loop system installed – if you have a hearing aid then please switch to T.

 Wednesday 11.45 am

Holy communion or a short service is held in the Village Hall during term time followed by a light lunch. Everyone is welcome to join us.
