Friends of Astbury Church
In 2011 an organisation called ‘The Friends of Astbury Church’ was formed with the intention of asking for regular donations towards the cost of the repair, maintenance and the upkeep of our beautiful Church, a Church sometimes known as the ‘Cathedral of Congleton’. Our normal summer openings will be every Sunday and Bank Holiday up to and including Sunday the 25th of September. On the Sunday and Monday of Bank Holiday weekends we shall be open between 12.00 noon and 6.00 pm with refreshments available between 2.00 and 5.00 pm. 8.00 am Holy Communion. BCP.
9.00 am Morning Prayer. 1st Sunday only.
11.00 am Service of the Word 1st and 3rd Sundays, Family Service on the 2nd Sunday and Holy Communion on the 4th Sunday.
6.30 pm Evensong 1st, 3rd and 4th Sundays, Sung Eucharist on the 2nd Sunday.
Whenever there is a 5th Sunday in any month all the above services will be suspended at both Astbury and Smallwood Churches and a joint service will be held on that Sunday – please check the website for further information.
Wednesday – midweek communion or a short service in the Village Hall at 11.45, followed by a light lunch (school term time only)
We have an active Prayer Group. It started in 2010 when our rector was unwell and the church seemed beset by problems, and ever since we’ve met fortnightly at 8 o’clock on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, praying for the local and global communities. We have a thriving Junior Church which meets in the vestry during the 10am service in term time, except on the 3rd Sunday which is Family Worship.
