Friends of Astbury Church
In 2011 an organisation called ‘The Friends of Astbury Church’ was formed with the intention of asking for regular donations towards the cost of the repair, maintenance and the upkeep of our beautiful Church, a Church sometimes known as the ‘Cathedral of Congleton’. Story-time service on the 1st Sunday at 6.00 pm follwed by Compline at 7.00, Evensong on the 3rd and 4th Sundays at 6.30 pm and and Sung Eucharist on the 2nd Sunday a 6.30 pm.
Whenever there is a 5th Sunday in any month all the above services will be suspended at both Astbury and Smallwood Churches and a joint service will be held on that Sunday – please check the website for further information.
On the first Sunday of each month (except for January) there will be a Storytime Service which will start at 6.00 pm. This is designed for young children, will last for about half an hour and will be followed by hot chocolate and other drinks. There will then be a Compline Service at 7.00 pm in place of the normal Evensong.
Wednesday – midweek communion or a short service in the Village Hall at 11.45, followed by a light lunch (school term time only)
We have an active Prayer Group. It started in 2010 when our rector was unwell and the church seemed beset by problems, and ever since we’ve met fortnightly at 8 o’clock on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, praying for the local and global communities. We have a thriving Junior Church which meets in the vestry during the 10am service in term time, except on the 3rd Sunday which is Family Worship.
